Evergreen Street Residence :
Renovation/Facade Restoration

Wicker Park, Chicago

This 100-year old home and coach house is located in the historic district of the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. The renovation of this project was a very organic process – Stonebridge Development Group became part of the family, working with the owners to create their vision of a space that had modern features but felt like it was all original to the home. Expert project management created an efficient timeline and innovative process for a timely completion. We worked closely with the historic society making sure all of the new details conformed to their strict guidelines.

Incorporating original wood work into the new space included reusing the original doors, moving and modifying several of the original wood pillars. Thus, creating a better flow and forming natural room separations. We also created custom trim to match the original designs, including multi-part crown molding, 5” door and window casing, and 8” custom baseboard. All of the stair openings were reconstructed and re-positioned to accommodate the new floor plan.

The House Features all new radiator heat and Space Pac air conditioning systems. All of the kitchen and bath cabinetry is custom built – a mix of honed marble and soap stone counters were used throughout the house. Top of the line appliances and bath fixtures adorn the home from the Wolf stove to Rohl bath fixtures and Toto toilets. The new custom Marvin Wood windows were installed in a very inventive way, saving the existing interior trim work while replacing the windows and exterior trim. The 2-story Coach House was totally re-built leaving only 2 of the original brick walls, due to the severe structural damage.

This project was featured in both an article and video in ChicagoMagazine.com written by Dennis Rodkin in December 2010.
